Kids want order. Without it they have no reference for what is right versus wrong. Start early by getting your child on the right path and getting them organized. Give your children the opportunity for success by giving them the tools to succeed. The simplest things make a huge difference such as lighting, lower closet rods and a place to put toys - not just in a pile near the wall. Oversized wastebaskets, lower hangers and a huge laundry bin make the chances of the these items being used for the right purpose more likely. By labeling items for your kids, they feel things have a place and so do you - making life a little easier when the laundry is done and the toys need to put away. Here are some easy tips:
1) Keep it simple - don't make your kids organizational system complicated - if they can't figure it out what good is it?
2) Make the storage accessible - if your kids can't get to it, the item is useless
3) Label everything - a label makes it "official"
4) Give your kids control - more often than not when you impose a system on kids or clean their room without their involvement - bad behavior begins. Let them in on the process - they will then know their own inventory of toys, clothes and school supplies and use what they have.
